In this edition of the Chemical Watch podcast, North America managing editor Terry Hyland, Europe reporter Kathryn Carlson and science editor Andrew Turley join global managing editor Kate Lowe to discuss three developments.

First, they discuss a hazard-based study carried out by scientists in Germany and Norway who say they have found that bioplastics and plant-based materials on the market are "just as toxic" as conventional plastics in terms of the chemicals they contain.

We will also take a look at a legal challenge that has been launched against Echa by the company at the centre of two landmark cases on animal testing of cosmetic ingredients – Symrise.

And finally, we’ll catch up with the latest developments in the US where the transition team for the incoming president and vice president has announced the formation of a 12-member group, tasked with evaluating the EPA’s operations before the new administration takes over on 20 January.
