In this episode of the Chemical Watch news podcast, global managing editor Kate Lowe is joined from Brussels by emerging markets reporter Ginger Hervey, from Cambridge, UK by Europe desk editor Luke Buxton and from Washington, DC by North America managing editor Terry Hyland.

Topics for discussion include Saudi Arabia, where the government is hastening the approval of a technical regulation to restrict substances in electronics and electrical equipment with the go-ahead expected as soon as 7 January.

Also on the agenda is the UK, where the government’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has confirmed that after the Brexit transition period, its independent RoHS Regulation will follow the same legislative timeframes for exemptions as those set by the EU.

The episode kicks off, however, with the US – and New York specifically – where on 2 December, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed legislation to ban the sale or distribution of food packaging with intentionally added per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from 31 December 2022.
