This week’s Podcast Short highlights stories about the US FDA's proposed GRAS rule, the UK's movement towards restricting Dechlorane Plus and UV-328, and more.

In the US, the FDA's top food chemical safety official predicts that the agency's proposal to update the Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) process is likely to look different in its final form.

Meanwhile, in the UK, the government has revived proposed restrictions on the flame retardant Dechlorane Plus (DP) and the plastic stabiliser UV-328. The draft legislative measure would also impose restrictions on medium-chain chlorinated paraffins (MCCPs), long-chain perfluorocarboxylic acids (LC-PFCAs), and the pesticide chlorpyrifos.

Other highlights include:

  • China revises its new chemical registration rules;
  • Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro signs legislation to ban DEHP in IV bags, restrict PFAS in firefighting foam and limit animal testing for cosmetics ingredients; and
  • surveys from EU authorities find that one third of children's clothing and footwear fail to meet at least some EU chemical requirements, while samples from online marketplaces show similar compliance issues.
